Remade scheme helps boost recycling for small firms

Small businesses in the Basildon, Essex, area have the opportunity to recycle cardboard and soft plastic packaging wrap under a new recycling scheme.

Its backers, Remade Essex, the local Green Business Forum and contractor Onyx, described it as a straightforward way for smaller firms to beat the often prohibitive costs of running their own recycling.

BasRap already has 50 firms signed up ahead of its launch in the new year, and wants to get 200 on its books.
Funding from the Cleanaway Pitsea March Trust has allowed it to offer firms a 1,100 litres bin, which will be collected weekly.

Project manager Karen Grant said: “All the material is taken to Essex Reclamation at Witham and then sent to processing plants. We have stipulated the use of UK processors.”’
