The Environmental Services Association (ESA) has shared a video opinion-editorial with Letsrecycle.com which sets out its aims and hopes for the next year.
In the video, ESA executive director Jacob Hayler looked at policy the association is excited to see, including the start of extended producer responsibility for packaging (pEPR) fees.
He celebrated the launch of the circular economy taskforce, announced at the end of 2024. Hayler said it was “good to see” the formation of the taskforce which will look at how the circular economy can be achieved across five areas. He added that he hopes there will be opportunities for the ESA and similar bodies to provide input.
The executive director announced that the ESA will be hosting a conference focusing on the work contained in its 2024 Corporate Report which sets out what it thinks the sector will look like in 2025. The conference will be held in May.
Hayler also mentioned changes that the ESA would like to see in the coming 12 months – especially in supporting circularity in the plastics industry. He added that the ESA would “really like to see” some strong measures to help support plastic recycling.
Additionally, he announced that the ESA will launch research into preventing waste fires through an analysis of collection types, produced in collaboration with Eunomia, in February.
