New wood recycling plant to open in Nottinghamshire

A new wood recycling facility is opening in Nottinghamshire, thanks in part to a grant from the Waste and Resources Action Programme.

The new facility at Elkesley, which is being developed by wood recyclers R Plevin and Sons Limited, will have the capacity to reprocess almost 100,000 tonnes of waste wood per year.

R Plevin and Sons will use the plant to manufacturer a variety of recycled wood products, including animal bedding, feedstock or panel board, manufacturing and fuel for renewable energy production. The site will also feature a green waste composting facility.

WRAP has provided 612,500 towards the project as part of its bid to accelerate investment in new wood reprocessing capacity.

The funding from WRAP was part of a total investment of 3.5 million. This funding covered investment in plant and machinery, development of the site, new surfacing and the construction of new buildings to house the plant.

Contaminants
The new plant, which includes a new reprocessing, grading and packaging facility, will ensure the removal of contaminants.

Tom Fourcade, WRAP's material sector manager for Wood, said: “Plevin's new Elkesley facility is a great example of the type of project that WRAP looks to fund – where sophisticated reprocessing and grading plants can produce a range of added value products. This will be a leading wood recycling facility of national significance.”
