Midlands incinerators escape damage after earthquake

Despite an earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale, MES Environmental have said that their incinerators at Wolverhampton and Dudley escaped damage.

The tremor occurred just before 1am last night, with the epicentre around Wolverhampton and Dudley in the West Midlands. Buildings reportedly shook for around half a minute as the effects of the quake could be felt as far away as Sheffield, London and Swansea.

However, although there was minor structural damage reported in the West Midlands, according to MES Environmental, precursory checks revealed no cause for concern at their plants. Steve Clark, general manager at MES Environmental said: “We've had a check round and there were no problems at all – even the turbines didn't jump, which we were quite surprised about.”
