Offers of £2.5m sought for Aylesford CHP plant
Asset consultancy Lambert Hampton Smith has been appointed to find buyers for equipment from the combined heat and power (CHP) plant at the now defunct Aylesford Newsprint paper mill.

The mill closed in February 2015 after the company had been placed into administration.
LSH was appointed by the company’s administrator KPMG to undertake a sale of Aylesford’s business assets through online auctions and private treaty phases held in May, which resulted in around £8.74 million being recouped.
LSH, in association with John Wilkie Paper Mill Services Ltd, has now been appointed to oversee the sale of the CHP plant, with offers in the region of £2.5 million being sought. The site comprises a water treatment plant, two CHP facilities, a steam turbine and a steam turbine generator.
The CHP scheme at Aylesford Newsprint was run by mill employees on a day-to-day basis providing power to the newsprint, some external customers, and a small proportion to the national grid. The plant was able to convert 16 tonnes per hour of process paper waste into steam used for both paper manufacture and power production.
Commenting on the instruction, Mike Hanson, Director at LSH’s Machinery & Business Assets team, said: “Despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the closure of Aylesford Newsprint we were able generate widespread bidder interest in the business’s assets at auction in May. We will now be undertaking a targeted campaign to ensure the successful sale of the associated CHP scheme and are anticipating significant interest from a range of prospective buyers.”

AMCS to carry out Spelthorne route-mapping project
Resource management and on-vehicle software specialist AMCS has been appointed by Spelthorne borough council to undertake a route optimisation project across the borough’s kerbside collection services.

Spelthorne is a local government district and borough in Surrey, England. It contains the towns and villages of Ashford, Laleham, Shepperton, Staines-upon-Thames, Stanwell and Sunbury-on-Thames and has a population of approximately 100,000 residents.
The project is one of the first to utilise AMCS’ Route Optimisation Consultancy Service. Commenting on the project, AMCS’ key account manager, Pat Murray, said: “This outsourced service is highly cost effective and also minimises the impact on what are often already stretched resources.
“Customers simply provide us with their existing route data, which is then run through our Route Optimiser and returned in a pre-agreed format ready for upload back in to their operational system. There is no need to upload any software or undertake any training and the whole project can be completed in just a few days.”

WRAP enlists Scout Association for recycling project
A collaboration between WRAP’s Recycle Now campaign and The Scout Association sees Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts across England and Wales aims to raise awareness of which items can be recycled around the home.
The ‘Ready, Set, Recycle’ challenge tasks groups with recycling as much plastic, paper, card, metal and glass as they can at home over the next four months. It also contributes to the Environmental Conservation Activity Badge for young people in Scouting.
Members will learn which items can be recycled in their household collection, along with having access to recycling facts to help complete the challenge.
Marcus Gover, director at WRAP said “The ‘Ready, Set, Recycle’ challenge is a positve way to engage the whole family and get them recycling more at home. We see this campaign as an excellent opportuity for our partners to demonstrate how they are helping local communities to understand more about recycling and contribute to improving the quantity and quality of what is collected.
“The Scout Association is well-known for the work it does to encourage young people to help their local communities, so we are extremely pleased to also be supporting the Environmental Conservation Activity Badge.”
The refreshed Recycle Now communications campaign, relaunched in June 2015, features promotional materials with a focus on capturing recyclable materials that occur in the bedroom or bathroom, where WRAP believes capture rates are lower.
