The August 1 issue of the magazine, which is produced by letsrecycle.com on behalf of the Environmental Services Association (ESA), features an in-depth interview with the man behind the £4 billion Greater Manchester waste PFI contract, the chair of the GMWDA, councillor Neil Swannick.

Cllr Swannick talks about some of the inspiration and driving forces that shaped his desire to develop a modern waste infrastructure for the region and to drive up recycling, as well as how the project is fast-becoming an example to the rest of the country.

The magazine also looks at how collection vehicle manufacturer Dennis Eagle is responding to its existing customers' ever-changing needs and the requirement for low emissions vehicles at the same time as looking to expand into new markets worldwide.

It examines the story behind how the company has built an enviable market share from its base in Warwick on the back of a flexible approach to developing vehicles which range from one-pass vehicles to more traditional RCVs.

The latest issue, which can be read free at www.resource.co.uk, also features a look at the potential impact that the revised EU Waste Framework Directive could have on the UK waste management sector, as well as examining the coalition government's progress on renewables.

Elsewhere, a full round-up of the month's biggest news stories includes a look ahead to Viridor chief executive Colin Drummond's appearance on Channel 4's ‘Undercover Boss' series this week (August 12), while the magazine also features all the latest news and views from the ESA itself.

Commenting on Resource Management & Recovery's move to an online home, the Director-General of the ESA, Barry Dennis, said: “In a time where we all need to think more about the environmental consequences of our actions, the move of the magazine away from traditional print media helps reduce our carbon footprint and make the magazine more widely available.

“We are grateful to letsrecycle.com for partnering with us and providing us with a platform for the magazine,” he added.

The benefits of the new online approach were highlighted by Steve Eminton, editor of letsrecycle.com, who said: “By moving RMR online we have been able to allow more people than ever to read the magazine's exciting mix of news and features.

“With free-to-access content to appeal to everyone involved in the waste sector, including waste management companies, local authorities, community groups and policy decision makers, the online edition of the magazine looks set to grow and grow,”

While a new issue of Resource Management & Recovery will be made available online at the start of each month, previous issues of the magazine can also be viewed in the ‘archive' section at www.resource.co.uk.
