Helistrat acquires waste arm of ecosurety

Helistrat has announced the takeover of the waste arm of packaging compliance scheme ecosurety, in a move which will increase its contract management business by over £1.5 million per year.

Portsmouth-based Helistrat which is a contract and facilities management business, will take on ecosurety’s waste contract management portfolio which consists of blue chip clients including Britvic, Birdseye and Hain Daniels.

Rather than conduct the waste and recycling operation itself, Bristol-based ecosurety had overseen waste contracts on behalf of some of its packaging compliance clients as well as other businesses – vetting and choosing contractors to supply waste services.

The sale of this side of ecosurety’s activities to Helistrat will, claimed ecosurety, allow it to “focus on its core service offering” as a compliance scheme, ensuring producers meet their waste packaging recycling requirements.

The acquisition also comes ahead of ecosurety’s plans to ‘shake-up’ PRNs with a project launch which, it claims, will connect producers with reprocessors and give more clarity over where revenue from the system is spent (see letsrecycle.com story).

Growth

Commenting on the acquisition Helistrat’s chief executive, Harvey Laud, said it was “clear evidence” of the company’s commitment to growth “both organically and through targeted acquisitions”.

He added: “We would like to welcome our new customers to Helistrat and look forward to building on ecosurety’s high quality service levels, whilst working to optimise the environmental and commercial benefits of improved materials management.”

Strategic

Steve Clark, ecosurety’s chairman, said: “This strategic agreement allows ecosurety to focus on its core business of environmental compliance, where we’re challenging the market to bring ever-greater efficiency and innovation for the benefit of our members.

“Over the past six years, we’ve worked with several of the same clients as Helistrat and been impressed by their focus on supply chain accountability – one of the most critical areas when dealing with waste.”

Mr Clark added: “With ecosurety facing so much opportunity to grow its core compliance business, the time was right to transfer our waste arm to Helistrat, who are experts in waste and share our aspirations for excellent customer service, continual improvement and resource efficiency.”
