Based in the north of England, Cumbria Waste Group provides waste solutions for municipal and commercial customers, collecting and processing waste across North England and Scotland.
Its operations, which have been ongoing for over 30 years, span materials recovery, composting, hazardous and liquid waste treatment, household waste recycling centres, as well as waste, recycling and organic collections.
The group currently employs around 350 staff across more than 20 locations in Cumbria, North Lancashire and Teesside.
Its operational sites consist of four materials recycling facilities (MRFs), a liquid waste treatment plant, two landfill sites, an aggregate recycling plant and a hazardous waste transfer station.
Cumbria Waste Group previously acquired Derwent Recycling Services in November 2024, as part of its growth plan to “strengthen its base in Cumbria and regionalise its business across the north of England”.
FCC to broaden geographical range
FCC Environment said the acquisition will “deepen its geographical coverage and further expand its product and service offering to enhance the value proposal for its customers.”
Commenting on the deal, FCC Environment Chief Executive Officer Steve Longdon said: “This is another very positive move for our business here in the UK, further strengthening our core services and our customer service proposition.
“With strong cultural and operational alignment between the businesses, we are looking forward to welcoming the Cumbria Waste Group team and to continuing to deliver exceptional services both to existing and to our new clients.”
Last year, the company was awarded a £44 million contract extension with Hull city council and East Riding of Yorkshire council, covering operations across Hull and East Riding and three waste transfer stations in Carnaby, Goole and Wilmington.
