The reporting tool will be available in September alongside a Carbon Literacy Training programme to help its members understand carbon and the importance of measuring it.
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) compliance scheme and sustainability consultancy confirmed that the tool has been peer-reviewed and certified to meet ISO 14044 standards.
The ISO certification approves that the lifecycle assessment (LCA) is scientifically sound and robust.
The tool was developed in collaboration with Small World Consulting and was independently reviewed by SLR Consulting.
It stems from research started in 2021 by senior carbon consultant at Small World Consulting, Matt Bond, while at Lancaster University using Ecogenesys data from 2019.
Bond noted that the tool measures all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, not just CO2, and looks at Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions – with a particular focus on Scope 3.
The tool and carbon literacy training were announced at Ecogenesys’ Summer Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) today (18 June 2025).
The event was held at the British Museum and had approximately 90 people in attendance, including Defra, PackUK, producers and processors.
Ecogenesys rebrand
The compliance scheme announced its rebrand from REPIC to Ecogenesys in March 2025, alongside its expansion into sustainability consultancy.
The company said that its new name has three roots:
- “Ecosystem” – Representing “a strong commitment in helping to protect the planet and its environmental ecosystem”.
- “Genesis” – Signifying “the creation of fresh possibilities and innovative approaches and progress towards a circular economy with smart, efficient solutions”.
- “System” – Standing for “the ecosystem of its services, designed to provide the complete support needed to navigate challenging compliance demands”.
Abs Bokhari, executive chairman of Ecogenesys, said at the time: “Ecogenesys isn’t just a new name – it’s a renewed commitment to being the trusted partner for businesses looking to navigate the future of compliance with confidence.
“This new era is about delivering forward thinking, innovative solutions that support businesses on their journey towards a more sustainable and circular economy. We are excited by the opportunities it brings for our members and the industry as a whole.”
