AMCS Group acquires Dutch competitor

Irish recycling and waste vehicle software provider AMCS Group has acquired the Amsterdam-based information technology developer GMT Europe from investment firm Nedvest.

GMT produces web reporting, inventory and scheduling software for waste collection and handling businesses, which can be used on smartphones and tablets, as well as route optimisation and weighbridge software.

The company predominantly operates in central and southern Europe, and Australasia.

AMCS’ products include route planning, in-cab appliances, weighbridge and processing software and data collation. The company says that the acquisition will help its clients to capitalise on technological advances for the management of waste.

Cloud

Jimmy Martin, chief executive of AMCS, said: “The waste industry has come of digital age, mobile, cloud and sensor technologies now enable dramatic improvements in how we collect, process and recover waste resources. Combining the experience and skills of AMCS and GMT will help our customers and communities make the most of these innovations, worldwide.”

GMT customers will continue to receive ongoing support from existing investments following the acquisition.

The combined company now employs over 350 staff serving 1300 customers in 22 countries.

Expansion

Mark Abbas, chief executive of GMT, said: “Joining forces with AMCS is great news for our customers, our people and our other stakeholders. All will benefit from the expanded resources of the Group, the combined skills of our teams, and the ability to serve a wider market of customers with innovative products and services.”

Tim Kreté, investment manager Nedvest, added: “AMCS and GMT are a natural and logical fit, both companies speak the same language. GMT management and employees will benefit from new and exciting international opportunities to further develop themselves. We are happy to hand over our ownership to such an exceptionally well run company as AMCS.”

The GMT deal is the latest in a string of acquisitions being carried out as part of a global expansion by the Irish firm, which last year purchased UK software developer P&L (see letsrecycle.com story).

This followed a €45 million investment, led by Insight Venture Partners (Insight), a New York-based private equity and venture capital firm, with participation from the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF) – to fund the growth of the business.
