Agency recycling guide puts businesses in touch with recyclers

The Environment Agency has put together a recycling guide in a bid to put businesses in the North West in touch with local recycling companies, and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

The Agency hopes that the guide will help it to answer some of the requests it receives from businesses across the region who have waste to recycle, but no idea who can help them. The Agency has collected details of more than 250 companies involved in recycling industrial and commercial waste. Information on the companies has been entered into a database which covers nearly 40 different types of waste including paper, plastics, chemicals and construction waste.

The Environment Agency’s waste licensing officer, Christine Norris said: “Businesses in the north west produce about 9.5 million tonnes of waste every year, much of which is disposed of in landfill sites. We want to encourage businesses to increase the amount of waste recycled, which makes both good environmental and economic sense.”

The information contained on the database has been complied into an electronic recycling guide, which can be emailed on request. For further information visit the Environment Agency's website.
