The course is designed to provide practical consideration of key areas of waste duty of care. It will be relevant to anybody involved with the management of waste, whether they provide waste services, are responsible for waste or produce waste in the course their activities. We will identify the key legislation under which non-compliance can lead to enforcement action and possible prosecution. This will set the scene for the principles of duty of care and in particular, the point at which the chain of responsibility commences, looking in particular at the definition of waste to determine whether waste legislation applies at all.

A key part of duty of care is the requirement for the producer of the waste to ensure their waste is passed on to others with the correct authorisations and paperwork taking account of the recent environmental Agencies’ Coronavirus Regulatory Position Statements We will focus on waste transfer documentation to ensure delegates understand when it is needed, record keeping and the legal completion requirements including an explanation of EWC and SIC codes.

With fly tipping on the rise, we will cover the waste carrier registration system and what to look for to ensure that waste is only handed over to an authorised carrier. We will also explain the role of brokers and consider the due diligence requirements on waste producers related to the legal carriage and disposal of waste and will take delegates through the public register system.

And finally, we will take delegates through the duty of care flow chart and aide memoire we have prepared that should provide the guidance needed to ensure compliance.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions throughout the webinar with delegates then able to email any further questions up to three days afterwards. Delegates will be provided with a copy of the slides, a copy of the aide memoire and flowchart and a certificate of attendance.
