Enfinium completes major Ferrybridge upgrade

Enfinium has completed a major upgrade programme at its Ferrybridge 1 energy-from-waste facility in West Yorkshire.
The works, carried out during April and May, included the first replacement of the site’s super heaters in a decade, alongside refractory tile renewal and repairs to critical plant equipment.
Ferrybridge 1 processes up to 725,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste annually and generates enough electricity to power around 170,000 homes and businesses.
The programme also introduced a new lightweight boiler access system developed by the on-site maintenance team to improve safety and efficiency.
Dr Jane Atkinson, Enfinium’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “Our Ferrybridge upgrade was the largest programme of works we have undertaken at an Enfinium facility in the last decade.
“We remain committed to maintaining all Enfinium facilities to the highest standards, operating responsibly and safeguarding the environment in our surrounding communities.”
Wood fuel sector launches new trade association

The Wood Fuel and Heating Association (WFHA) has been established to provide representation for the UK wood fuel and heating sector.
The new membership organisation brings together businesses and organisations from across the supply chain to support engagement in policy and regulatory discussions, while promoting collaboration, high standards and greater coordination across the industry.
WFHA said it will advocate the benefits of sustainable wood heating to the UK economy as attention grows around renewable heat, energy resilience and future heat policy.
WFHA Chairman Terence McCracken said: “At a time when conversations around energy policy, sustainability and long-term heat security are becoming increasingly important, it is vital that decisions are informed by practical operational experience and a proper understanding of the sector itself.”
The association is open to businesses and organisations operating across the wood fuel and heating sector.

The 62,850-capacity stadium hosts football matches, NFL games, concerts and other major events throughout the year.
