Margaret Bates moves from pEPR to Simpler Recycling
Margaret Bates confirmed that she is moving from PackUK to Simpler Recycling as part of her Defra secondment.
Margaret has been instrumental in delivering Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging (pEPR) as the Head of the Scheme Administrator.
She will now hand over the reins to Jeremy Blake who was announced as the Chief Executive of PackUK in July 2025.

Stuart Hayward-Higham confirms government is considering textiles EPR
Stuart Hayward-Higham confirmed that the Circular Economy Taskforce is considering introducing an Extended Producer Responsibility for textiles (tEPR).
Hayward-Higham said that the textiles sector has made it clear that it wants tEPR and that the scheme would ensure trade parity with Europe.
Earlier this month, the EU voted to approve legislation that would see member states introduce the system in the next few years.

Dr David Greenfield on quantifying the social value of Tech-Takeback
Dr Professor David Greenfield discussed the need to quantify the social value of combatting digital poverty.
Amongst many other titles, Greenfield is the Founder and Managing Director of the Tech-Takeback which has created £19 million in value last year alone.
He told an inspiring story of an individual whose laptop generated £47,000 in social value.
Greenfield also discussed his presidency at the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management (CIWM).

Charlotte Davies explores the need to change sector jargon
Early Careers President at the CIWM Charlotte Davies discussed making the sector more accessible by adapting the language we use.
She proposed that the language we use such as “waste” and “resource” might need to be changed to terms that are more recognisable to the general public such as “recycling”.
Davies is also a Senior Consultant in Resource Efficiency and Circularity at consultancy Beyondly.
