Reuse shops offer an opportunity for items that are brought to HWRCs or drop-off points to be given a second life.
The partnership said that this is the first shop of its kind that it has set up at a Kent HWRC.
David Wimble, KCC Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “This Reuse Shop will mean residents can pick up quality items at an affordable price while helping to reduce waste as much as possible.
“Our household waste recycling centres are particularly busy at this time of year so there will be a good range of products available.
“I would encourage people to visit the shop and see what’s on offer, but also to donate any items they no longer need at their local HWRC so they can be given a new home.”
FCC Environment has branded the items on sale at the reuse shop as “new-to-you” and added that the shop gives customers an opportunity to “do their bit” for the environment.
Proceeds from the shop will go towards raising funds for local charities, including those chosen by KCC’s Chairman.
FCC Environment operates 14 of the council-owned 19 HWRCs in Kent and has been taking steps to enhance the visibility and convenience of reuse across the sites.
Chris Ellis, FCC’s Operations Director for Waste & Recycling, said: “Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for residents to donate items that might otherwise have gone to waste for reuse.
“Many of the recycling centres operated by FCC on behalf of KCC now accept a range of products for reuse, providing an accessible location to donate any underappreciated items residents have stowed away in the corners of their homes.”
