West Yorkshire Police say emergency services attended the site of the tragic discovery on Bowling Back Lane on Thursday afternoon.
Sara Hollins, head of midwifery for Bradford, said: “Our main priority is to find the mum of the baby as we are concerned for her wellbeing and want to ensure she gets the appropriate medical care and support.
“We are urging mum or any friends of mum to call the police on 101 or via 07753 672648 – you can text if you want – quoting log 564. Mum is likely to be from the Bradford area.”
The police say the baby was wrapped in a pink towel depicting the island of Fuerteventura in yellow on a purple background.
Various images associated with tropical locations are pictured on the towel including fish, sea horses and a palm tree.

The Bowling Back Lane site is operated by the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council. It reopened after its coronavirus-enforced closure on 11 May.
Bradford council leader Susan Hinchcliffe said: “This is heart-breaking news. We want to send our condolences and our prayers out to everyone involved.
“Our kerbside waste recycling facility at Bowling Back Lane has been closed until further notice.
“Our main priority now is to support our staff members who were affected by this incident and assist the police with their investigation into this awful event. Anyone with information is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police.”
The HWRC on another part of the same site has remained open.
In a statement released on Twitter Bradford council said: “The Household Waste Recycling Centre at Bowling Back Lane is still open for householders to take their rubbish.
“The tragedy occurred at another part of the site where kerbside recycling is processed.”

Suffolk
This latest tragedy follows the discovery of the body of a newborn baby girl at a recycling centre operated by Sackers at Needham Market in Suffolk in May (see letsrecycle.com story). The baby was believed to have been less than 48 hours old.
