WasteSupport matching service launches

WasteSupport, a new matching service aimed at linking local authorities in need of help with waste services with the private sector, has been launched.

A long list of organisations are supporting the WasteSupport platform which has been developed with the support of Defra.

Available to sign up to HERE, the ‘virtual marketplace’ allows users to create and browse listings for any key services needed,  or any resources firms are able to offer. However despite investment into the platform, CIWM warns that it “is not compatible with Internet Explorer”.

Developed by the CIWM, the platform has been launched this morning

A clause in public procurement regulations is allowing the service to operate outside of normal local authority tendering requirements.

Those backing the platform include the  Association of Directors of Environment, Economy, Planning & Transport (ADEPT), Environmental Services Association (ESA), Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC), London Waste & Recycling Board (LWARB), United Resource Operators Consortium (UROC) and WRAP.

The platform was organised through the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM), which is expecting a large number of sign-ups within the first few days of launching.

Services

The idea of the platform is that it will enable local authorities facing resource challenges during the pandemic to indicate where they need service capacity support, as well as requirements such as PPE or vehicle maintenance.

Waste operators with surplus capacity can then indicate services they are able to supply, creating a ‘virtual marketplace’.

WasteSupport is only accessible to local authorities and licensed/permitted waste operators, and everyone who signs up to use it will have to prove their credentials in order to access the full site.

You can sign up to the platform on the Waste Support website here, WasteSupport. Registrations will then need to be verified.
