The processing and selling of kerbside recycling contract, which has been held since 2016, will see Viridor receive around quarter-of-a-million tonnes worth of recycling from seven districts across West and Mid Kent.

Viridor head of local authority development, Simon Prior, said: “We first started working with Kent county council in 2014 and being able to continue our partnership with Kent county council is fantastic news.
“By continuing to work together, we can increase the amount of material that Kent recycles, using our state-of-the-art materials recycling facility in Crayford, South East London, driving a more circular economy by maximising the recycling opportunities which Kent residents create when they put the right stuff in the right bin.”
For 2016/17 Kent county council reported a recycling rate of 46.3%. This is marginally higher than the average rate of 45.1% across England’s local authorities for the year.
Nichola Hood, waste business partnership manager at Kent county council, added: “Kent county council waste management is pleased to announce that by mutual consent the contract between Kent county council and Viridor Waste Management Ltd for the West and Mid Kent Dry Recyclables Processing Contracts has been extended for a further two years to 3 July 2020.”
MRF
Material such as paper, card, plastic bottles, cans and glass will be sorted using optical sortation, mechanical process and manual quality control at the nearby Crayford MRF.
Taken over by Viridor when the firm acquired Grosvenor Waste Management in December 2007, the Crayford MRF has the capacity to process around 400,000 tonnes of material each year.
