The pedestrian was hit on Abbey Road near the junction with Eldon Way while walking to work at around 8.45am. She died from extensive head injuries at the scene.

The woman has not been formally identified but was today confirmed to have worked for Serco, which is contracted to manage parking services on behalf of Brent council in the area. Her next of kin have been notified.
Police have confirmed that the driver of the Bywaters-owned refuse lorry which struck the victim, stopped at the scene, and that no arrests had been made.
Investigation
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Collision Investigation Unit at Alperton are now investigating the crash, which is understood to have involved two vehicles.
An eyewitness at the scene told the Evening Standard that she saw a body lying between a skip lorry and another vehicle. The manager of a local waste firm, who did not wish to be named, told letsrecycle.com the collision had involved both a refuse collection vehicle (RCV) and skip lorry.
Speaking to letsrecycle.com, a spokeswoman for Bywaters confirmed one of its vehicles had been involved in the incident, and was cooperating fully with the police investigation.
‘Tragic’
Commenting on the incident today, a spokesman for Serco said: “We had a tragic accident involving one of our employees yesterday who was on her way to work. Our thoughts are with her family and friends.”
It is the fourth waste vehicle related fatality this month, after an Amey worker was killed collecting refuse in Daventry and an 85-year-old pedestrian was hit crossing a street in Edinburgh.
A third casualty, a 70-year-old man from Otley, was killed in a head-on collision with a Harrogate-owned waste vehicle last week.
