The new contract will begin in July this year, and will also include the provision of street cleansing services.
Veolia Environmental Services will need to increase the town's recycling rate, since the 11% recycling rate was one of the lowest in the South East region during 2004/05.
The borough had a recycling target set by the government of 18% by 2005/06.

Richard Homewood, the council's director of environment and safety, said: “The terms of the new contract have put greater emphasis on improving recycling performance and a higher specification of street cleaning.”

Commenting on the award, Veolia Environmental Services' chief executive, Cyrille du Peloux, said: “As the incumbent contractor it gives us great pleasure to regain this contract and we see it as due recognition of the hard work and effort we have put into delivering an efficient and effective service to date.
“We look forward to maintaining our good partnership with Hastings Borough Council and to continuing to provide Hastings residents with a reliable service,” Mr Du Peloux said.
