The council, which has taken on the role of co-ordinating authority for the regional waste plan following the launch of the Welsh Assembly's new National Waste Strategy for Wales, is looking to start a formal consultation some time around April next year.
Gareth Jones, Principal Minerals Officer for Denbighshire county council, said: “We're looking to give anybody who has an interest in the Regional Waste Plan for North Wales the chance to provide their details if they want to be consulted on next year.”
The plan will look for the best practicable environmental options for dealing with waste in the North Wales area, which includes Denbighshire, Conwy, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Anglesey, Snowdonia National Park and Powys.
The Welsh Assembly has set a deadline of November 2003 for the Regional Waste Plan to be completed and agreed. In their Wise about Waste strategy, the Assembly split Wales into three regions – North Wales, South West Wales and South East Wales. The new strategy will provide 79 million for Wales to assist local authorities in reaching combined recycling and composting targets of 40% by 2009-10 (see letsrecycle.com story).
Any groups or individuals who would like to be consulted in the preparation of the plan are asked to contact Gareth Jones for further information by emailing: gareth.jones@denbighshire.gov.uk or by telephone on 01824 708 033.
