Businesses in the Dorset coastal town will benefit from the opt-in service from July 1 while the 65 local companies that have already pre-registered for the scheme will receive three months of free collections from the council.
Businesses that sign up will be presented with 140-litre bin for food waste, and will be able to request more than one collection a week for an additional fee. The council told lesrecycle.com that the weekly charge of 4.40 was lower than the current price for commercial refuse collections.
The scheme, which will be carried out by the local authoritys fleet of split body refuse vehicles, follows the collection of over 600 tonnes of household food waste since the launch of a residential service in March.
In preparation for the household food waste collection service, residents were issued with 12l containers that fit inside in their existing recycling bin.
Food waste received from households and businesses in the borough is sent for anaerobic digestion at Eco Sutainable Solutions plant in Dorset. The process sees the waste turned into fertiliser and biogas to generate 185MWh for the National Grid.

Reg Hutton, Head of Operations Street Services, said: Bournemouth now has a fantastic fleet of collection vehicles and it makes sense for crews to collect all forms of waste from businesses as well as from householders.
However its a lot cheaper to process waste that is being recycled, as those businesses that use our existing recycling services already know, so reducing their general waste by separating out the food makes good business sense for those who are serious about saving their business money.

Councillor Michael Filer, cabinet member responsible for waste disposal, urged all Bournemouth-based businesses to take advantage of this new service.
He said: Recycling food waste can help improve your balance sheet and at the same time to provide more electric power into the National Grid.
