BGRC takes non-contracted cullet but future role is uncertain

The two shareholders of the British Glass Recycling Company are locked in talks over the future of the business which buys cullet from many local authorities and independent glass collectors.

Last year it was revealed that Rockware, one of the two shareholders in the business, had decided to not participate in BGRC activities and its two directors on the board of BGRC had resigned. This left United Glass, the other 50% shareholder, effectively in charge of activities.

Now, Rockware is set to reappoint two directors in a bid to shape the future of the company. A number of options are thought to be under active consideration.

Recently, a letter went to several of BGRC’s non-contracted suppliers warning that material would not be taken because BGRC was unable to sell it on. However, since then another letter has been sent saying that the situation has changed and material is still being taken.

Price rises introduced by BGRC have also prompted discussion among the shareholders.
