Dennis Eagle showcases new hybrid chassis

Topping the bill was a prototype of its first ever purpose-built municipal chassis to use technology developed in partnership with engineering company BAE Systems. Dennis Eagle entered into partnership with BAE earlier this year to integrate a heavy duty hybrid electric propulsion system into one of its low-entry cab vehicles. As well as offering a quieter alternative to standard RCVs, the final model is also set to use new advanced fuel-efficient technologies and therefore has lower operating costs. The firm also exhibited its new Olympus Twin Pack body, and its new fuel saver pack which also aims to deliver significant cost savings to customers.

Speaking ahead of the show, Dennis Eagle managing director Norman Thoday said: 2011 has been a busy year for Dennis Eagle. Weve been working hard to develop a number of innovative technologies designed to help our customers improve their environmental performance while reducing long term costs and we look forward to unveiling these at RWM.

DHL adds equipment service to Envirosolutions offering

Logistics company DHLs recently-launched environmental solutions service Envirosolutions has been augmented with the addition of a waste and recycling equipment service, which was launched at RWM.

The service will offer equipment that can be either purchased or rented, using a range finance options. Examples of equipment in the range include horizontal full auto balers, vertical millsize balers, small vertical balers, EPS compactors, glass breakers, tin can balers and trash compactors. It aims to enable companies to reduce the cost of waste disposal while also encouraging recycling and reuse. Solutions will be offered for on-site waste handling, to minimise labour requirements, as well as clear instructions on how to use the equipment safely.

Jos Dallhuizen, business director for Envirosolutions at DHL Supply Chain, said: The new service strengthens the ability of Envirosolutions to act as one point of contact for the entire spectrum of recycling, waste management, compliance and energy requirements. For small to medium size enterprises in particular it will increase the commercial viability of effective waste management, and help to drive real value from their supply chain.

Taylor launches new bins for Street range

Container manufacturer Taylor used this years RWM to launch two new additions to its Street range, which is designed to provide an aesthetic yet affordable solution to the problem of on-street waste collection.

The 100 litre Metro bin and the 240 litre Urban unit are based on the system of the Street Unit, a container housing that has been used across the country in residential areas and cou8ncil bring sites to increase recycling rates. The Metro has a waste collection case, while the Urban uses a standard 240 litre wheeled bin, with both units including lockable front panels which simply swing open, allowing collector to pull or wheel the container out as required. Aesthetically designed, the products feature a slanted roof and modular design which prevents items being placed on top of, or between, the units. The apertures have been designed to reduce the risk of contamination. The units also feature a large area for graphics and are available in a wide range of colour options allowing communication of branding and recycling messages.

David Williams, managing director of Taylor, commented: A common criticism of many of the nations high streets is the lack of litter bins that are visibly available to the public. Our new Metro and Urban products offer an affordable yet attractive solution for the collection of litter and recyclate on the go. We are hoping to be able to work with councils to help improve the waste collection facilities in town centres.

Hadfield Wood Recycling unveils new image

Manchester-based wood recycling company Hadfield Wood Recyclers used the RWM show to unveil a new corporate identity to consolidate its position as a leading player in the sector.

The company operates a nationwide service from sites in Manchester, Teesside, Essex and Kent and produces a number of different products from waste wood, including equine, poultry, and cattle bedding, feedstock for panel board, filter beds, and equine and play area surfaces. It all produces biomass wood chip for fuel. As well as launching a new logo and website at the show, the company also unveiled a new, bigger, custom-built stand.

Ahead of the event, the companys managing director, Geoff Hadfield, said: We are really pleased to be launching our new corporate identity at RWM. This years exhibition looks set to be bigger and better than ever with coming together of RWM and Futuresource and its perfect timing for us to unveil our new image.

Avery Weigh-Tronix claims new skip weighing system will improve margins

Industrial weighing company Avery Weigh-Tronix has unveiled a new skip weighing system which, it says, will improve operating margins for the recycling and waste industry.

The trade-approved system, known as Sureweigh, aims to provide operators collecting skips with the option of charging by load, by weight or by weight bands, as well as offering competitive hire prices. It also ensures operators do not overload their vehicles but can still carry an optimum load. An alarm will sound if the skip is too heavy, while an easy-to-use display shows the weight of the skip, with the option of using in-cab printing to give receipts on the spot, to download data to a PC or to add Bluetooth for data transfer. Sureweigh can be retrofitted to existing vehicles and purchased as either a legal for-trade system or a basic system which can be upgraded at a later date.

Chris McAllister, product manager for Avery Weigh-Tronix said: Operators collecting skips have greater financial pressures than ever before. Margins are tight and fuel and waste disposal costs are rising. In addition, regulations on landfill and health and safety are more stringent. Using a legal for trade skip weighing system provides organisations with option of charging by load, by weight or by weight bands. It means that you can offer competitive hire prices and be sure of covering your costs.
