CK Group reshapes Hong Kong and UK line-up

Plastics recyclers CK Group, which has had an office in Hong Kong for six years, has announced that its Hong Kong manager Marc Sharples is returning to the UK after four years in the post.

Mr Sharples will return to the UK this autumn to play a multifunctional role within the company covering north west and north east England and Scotland. He will also jointly manage the Hong Kong business with Chris Collier, CKs group commercial director.

And,to strengthen the Hong Kong operation, CK Group has appointed a new sales manager, Brian Kwan, 32, who speaks Chinese and English, who will work alongside sales manager Terry Lau. And, CK Group has also revealed that it intends to expand its end markets further in the Far East

New managers for Biffa Municipal

Biffa’s municipal division has appointed new regional managers because of continuing business expansion.

Malcolm Savill, the business manager overseeing Biffas contracts with Swale and Thurrock councils, has been promoted to be one of the companys five regional managers.He has overall responsibility for Biffas service delivery for its Mole Valley, Runnymede, Surrey Heath, Tandridge, Wandsworth and Woking contracts, as well as business development.

Brian Ashby has been appointed as regional manager with responsibility for overseeing operations and developing Biffas municipal contracts with Arun, Chiltern, Forest of Dean, Penrith, South Bucks, South Oxfordshire, Vale of White Horse, Vale of Glamorgan and Wycombe councils. Mr Ashby is also currently leading the Biffa mobilisation team that is planning the service roll-out for Portsmouth city council in October.

Municipal director Roger Edwards said the appointments ensured that decades of hard-won experience would be available to a wider number of Biffa managers and crews. He added: “Brian and Malcolm will help keep everyone focused on doing their jobs effectively, efficiently and safely. Their personal knowledge of many of the contracts, plus their strong relationships with clients, will be valuable assets for the divisions future.

Two join Newport Paper as regional managers

The appointments are to new roles to seek and develop relationships with local authorities, waste management companies and businesses to secure contracts for supplies of their recovered materials.

Ms Griffiths has more than 10 years’ experience of management, sales and account management in the waste industry.

This includes developing sustainable waste management plans, roll outs of recycling schemes and audits for companies including Balfour Beatty, British Energy and the Metropolitan Police.

Mr Shafiq has been working in the recycling sector for over five years, including with the supply of balers and compactors, MRF processing and the purchasing of recyclables.

Matthew Hoare, managing director of Newport Paper said: Were really pleased to have recruited two people of such calibre and are looking forward to securing more contracts with local authorities and waste management companies.

Key appointments at Faun Zoeller UK

Waste management systems manufacturer Faun Zoeller UK has made several key appointments to its senior management team.

Nick Preston has moved into the new post of commercial and marketing director from the position of commercial manager and Marshall Fleming has been promoted from the municipal manager to the new post of UK sales director. The two will be responsible for overseeing a wide range of service lines including expanding sales and the development of private and public sector contracts in the UK.

In further management changes Matt Buckley formerly managing director of OTTO Lifts has been made service and contracts director and Adrian Ward formerly operations manager of Zoeller Waste Systems has been made operations director, both having worked within the sector for many years.

Haggard joins Green Investment Bank advisory group

The appointments to the Advisory Group for the Green Investment Bank (GIB) were announced today (August 31) by the Business Secretary Vince Cable and include waste finance expert Melville Haggard. The group, chaired by Sir Adrian Montague, will advise ministers on the establishment of the Green Investment Bank and its strategic direction.

The nine members have a wide range of experience and capability in finance, from building and running institutions to project finance and making transactions. Business Secretary Vince Cable said: I am very pleased that we have secured such an excellent mix of people. The group has wide-ranging credentials relating to energy and other environmentally important industries, hands-on financing experience and a deep understanding of infrastructure projects. We also have people with a background of starting up new credit institutions and managing a development bank.

Melville Haggard is currently managing director ofQuartermain Advisers Ltd. He is on the investment committee of the London Waste and Recycling Board and is a former advisor on the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Waste Infrastructure Delivery Programme.

The chair and members will be unpaid and will provide their time on a voluntary basis.
