Fire fighters are continuing to work at the Haddenham Road facility to ensure its safety before allowing an investigative team onto the site later this afternoon.

The fire is believed to have started in the trade waste section of the site with about 80 tonnes of material effected. About 20% of the building was involved in the fire.

A spokesman for the Waste Recycling Group said: “The damage is not substantial and part of the site may be able to open later on today, the building will be open as normal tomorrow.

“We would advise our customers to take their waste and recyclables to one of the other sites in Suffolk today,” he added.

The transfer station takes household waste from Waveney district council which is either sent to landfill or recycled. Commercial and trade waste is also brought to the facility.
