Berkshire-based recovered material trader International Forest Products UK has been granted accreditation to export WEEE waste in a move which it hopes will further expand its growing plastics export division.

The company, which operates its UK business from an office in Berkshire, has been trading recovered materials for over 30 years and has historically focused largely on recovered fibre. But, the plastics division was set-up in 2008 and has seen a dramatic increase in business in the last 12 months.

At the moment, the company is exporting around 250,000 metric tonnes of paper per year and 20,000 metric tonnes of plastics. It is hoping to handle 2,000 metric tonnes of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) plastic by the end of the year.

Whilst already having years of experience in the trade of waste products including numerous grades of waste plastic, International Forest Products (IFP) hopes that the WEEE waste accreditation will be a big boost for its business.

Companies that are involved in the trade of e-waste are obligated to ensure that it is dealt with responsibly and this is something which IFP says it takes very seriously by adopting a strong duty of care approach.

Rebate value

IFP says it is also committed to assisting UK recyclers of WEEE waste to maximize the rebate value for the plastics recovered from the process. The company buys recovered plastics from Approved Authorised Treatment Facilities (AATFs) and WEEE reprocessors.

Amie Middleton, recovered plastics manager at IFPUK, said: This is a fantastic opportunity for IFP (UK) to enter into a new market selling WEEE plastic scrap. We are keen to ensure that all of our undertakings within this market are conducted with the upmost professionalism and due diligence ensuring we can provide great service and prices to our suppliers.”
