Lifts installed at new Dennis Eagle depot

Dennis Eagle has taken delivery of a set of six S6ng mobile column lifts for its new Winchester depot after securing a new contract to supply and Maintain vehicles used for waste collection and recycling across two local authority areas.

Serving Winchester and Portsmouth councils, the depot will maintain a total of 49 new trucks, including the latest Elite 2 Euro 5 6×2 RS vehicles.

Alongside the investment in Winchester, Dennis Eagle has also ordered two sets of lifts for its Kensington Depot, which services a fleet of 80 vehicles. As well as ordering the new lifts, Dennis Eagle has also agreed a long-term service and maintenance agreement.

Dave Nicholls, Dennis Eagle customer Support and projects manager, said: Signing up our new lifts on a service contract covering both labour and call out charges for a fixed rate just made sense. We can rest assured that, should the lifts require a service or emergency repair, SOMERSTOTALKARE will be on site promptly to carry out the work with no extra costs to ourselves.

Vecoplan launches new plastics shredder

Shredding equipment manufacturer Vecoplan has launched its new V-ECO 1700 shredder designed for the plastic recycling market.

Based on the companys VAZ-Technology, the machine includes optimised counterknives and changeable cutters that are usable four times. Vecoplan claims the new rotor design in a W-shape is the ideal set-up for shredding various kinds of plastic materials such as film, pots, tubs and trays plastics, as well as bottles.

New features include support for the counterknives, which are each adjustable on their own during the shredding process. There is also no longer a need to climb into the machine, while the machine floor is designed to lift-up and the screen basket to swing down.

According to the firm, the inclined machine floor delivers the material permanent to the rotor, this feature provides continuous throughput for the machine. Meanwhile, Vecoplan says the frequency-controlled ram supports the efficient shredding processes and is easy to adopt if the infeed material changes.

Horizon launches aluminium conveyor rollers

Midlands-based Horizon Conveyor Equipment has said it is pleased with the success of its aluminium conveyor rollers since they were developed three years ago.

The company claims its self-designed and self-built heavy-duty rollers offer robust strength and are nearly half the weight of standard steel counterparts, making them an increasingly appealing alternative on a wide range of sites.

Development work on the rollers began in response to industry concerns about the health and safety risks of using standard heavy steel trough and return rollers, which can weigh up to 90kg. Excessive weight means that steel rollers generally need extra manpower to carry, install and maintain, and conveyors often require prolonged periods of downtime while that work is carried out.

Over the past three years the rollers have been tested at sites including E-ONs Kingsnorth Power Station and RWEs Tilbury Power Station, according to Horizon.

Alan Bowler, managing director at Horizon, said: Our aluminium roller has all the weight and handling advantages of our HDPE plastic rollers but with the added advantage of extra strength especially for long return rollers. This is absolutely critical for operators who face real health and safety issues when attempting to replace failed steel rollers, particularly in enclosed or hard to access locations.

Fairport Containers unveil new compactor

Commercial waste container provider Fairport Containers has announced the launch of a new compaction product, designed to allow companies to fit more material in containers.

Designed specifically for the company, the compactor is available in either small (to fit a Backhoe loader) or large (to fit a 12 to 20-tonne excavator). According to Fairport, the compactor enables companies to get the maximum use from their waste containers, by cutting down the empty space between contents.

Fairport Containers managing director, Steve Collinson, said: From visiting customers around the country and listening to their requirements, we have developed this brand new compactor which will provide a convenient solution to a common problem. Packing more waste into containers will save on collections, helping to reduce firms CO2 output and cut traffic congestion, as well as helping the bottom line.

Microsoft ERP invoicing software installed at Weir Waste

Birmingham-based waste management company Weir Waste is using Microsoft Dynamics software with the aim of speeding up its invoicing process, gaining more visibility of its operations and helping to increase customer satisfaction.

The specialist waste and recycling Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, known as enwis), was provided by IT company Prodware.

Weir Waste said it expected to see immediate savings from using the software, particularly through streamlining the companys invoicing process, with more accurate management information and real-time reporting.

Tony Veal, financial director at Weir Waste, said: Prodware took the time to fully understand how we worked and delivered a presentation that clearly showed the superior functionality of the enwis) solution. Prodwares knowledge of the waste and recycling industry is extremely good and it was a unanimous decision from the project team that we should place the order with them.
