Yorkshire firm to face charges over exports

The Environment Agency's crackdown on paperwork for exports of material will see a second company appearing in court this month facing charges concerning overseas shipments.

Grove Environmental (Recycling) Ltd of Mexborough near Rotherham is to appear in Doncaster Magistrates Court on February 20. The company, according to the listing in the court, will face a charge that on “4th August 2005 it effected an illegal shipment of mixed municipal waste to China without prior notification to all competent authorities concerned.”

Adjourned

The case was due to have been heard by the magistrates in Doncaster yesterday (February 1) but was adjourned without a formal hearing until February 20.
A spokeswoman for the Environment Agency said: “We cannot comment on the proceedings at this stage.”

No-one was available at Grove Environmental for a comment this morning (February 2).

On its website Grove Environmental describes the company as having “over 30 years experience in waste management.

“The company has the experience and expertise to provide a comprehensive total waste management system, unmatched for their efficiency, reliability and cost effectiveness.”

Courts

In a separate case, Kent-based Grosvenor Waste Management is appearing in court today (February) 2 on charges relating to incorrect paperwork for exports of material. Accordingly, the case against Grove Environmental represents the second of its type currently in the courts and with the Environment Agency pledging action last year over exports, further court cases are seen as likely.
