Sevenoaks wins Aylesford quality competition

Sevenoaks District Council has been awarded first prize in Aylesford Newsprint's national quality competition.

Aylesford Newsprint set up the quality award to encourage councils to improve the quality of newsprint that they collect. Aylesford recycles all of Sevenoaks District Council's used newspapers and magazines into newsprint and Sevenoaks has now received Aylesford's “gold award” and 1,000 for the high quality of its paper. Last year, Seveonoaks picked up the 500 runners up prize.

Richard Wilson, head of direct services, said: “The quality of the newspapers and magazines delivered to Aylesford Newsprint by Sevenoaks District Council is a testament to the hard work and dedication of its crews. This has been the mainstay of the successful relationship between the waste collector and the reprocessor.”

Runners up in this year's quality collection scheme were Bath and North East Somerset council, who collected the silver award and a cheque for 500 and Potters Bar-based Chas Storer, who won the bronze award and a cheque for 250.
