Waste container company in administration

Administrators have been called in to handle the finances of waste container company MDRC Group, and to try to sell the business.

Municipal and District Repair Company Ltd (MDRC) was founded in 1990 by the Izzard family – who continue to own it – to provide an on-site maintenance and repair service for plastic and metal waste containers.

The Dorset-based firm manufactures containers under the brand Tuff Bins and also ran a graffiti-removing service called Community Clean which has now been sold off.

Southampton-based administrator RecoveryHJS was called in last month and senior insolvency administrator Lisa Duell confirmed the company is in administration.

She added that Community Clean has been purchased by Container Trak Ltd but that the container refurbishment side will “still be traded in the short term while negotiations take place”. It is expected to be purchased by another company in a trade and assets sale where everything in the business will be sold.

MDRC
MDRC based in Wimborne, Dorset, has contracts with local authorities, major waste contractors, the health service, housing associations, and the private sector.

In January this year, it won a one-year contract with Enfield council in north London to refurbish its trade bins. And in the same month, it signed a two-year deal with Veolia to refurbish the company's metal container stock – believed to have been the largest of its kind awarded in the industry.

Taylor
Meanwhile, Taylor, another container refurbishment company, announced this week that it is investing in a new custom-built refurbishment facility in Worcestershire, which has the capacity to handle 60,000 bins each year.

Operations director David Williams: “We have invested in a new refurbishment and spares operation in response to the market’s need for a high quality, fast response, national service.

“In the refurbishment and spares marketplace dependability and predictability is everything for customers. This is due to the fact that they want to minimise the downtime that containers are out of service”, he added
