Wastepack appoints new chief executive

The Wastepack Group has appointed a new chief executive to take the company forward and increase the scope of its work. Barry Van Danzig, who founded Wastepack and was previously chairman and chief executive, will now become executive chairman.

Paul Ashworth, 45, (pictured) has been appointed as Wastepack's new chief executive. Mr Ashworth joins from Amey plc, the support services group, where he was managing director of the utilities services division. Mr Ashworth will take up his new role in November and will be based at Wastepack's office in Amersham.

Last year, Duke Street Capital made a major investment in Wastepack and the company is now looking to build on and develop its three main business areas of waste management services, packaging waste compliance and recyclate management.

Mr Ashworth’s appointment is the latest in a number of strong managerial appointments and is designed to move Wastepack forward and ensure that the company has sufficient depth of managerial experience to effectively manage its proposed growth.

Mr Van Danzig said: “Paul Ashworth has relevant experience in fulfilling a variety of challenging roles across a wide range of industry sectors. He is the ideal choice to play a key role in the next stage of Wastepack’s development.”

Before joining Amey, Mr Ashworth worked for ICI, Wellcome Foundation and Booker plc. He is also a former managing director of the Flight Services Division of Alpha Airports Group plc. Mr Ashworth has an MBA from the London Business School.
