Zero Emission Vehicle Zone planned at Futuresource

Visitors will not only be able to see the latest green machines in action in the ZEV zone, but also test their driving skills on a range of electric vehicles. Confident drivers might also want to rise to the daily ZEV Cup Challenge, and race the clock to complete a number of tasks. A bottle of bubbly is up for grabs for successful candidates.

The ZEV Zone will feature attractions ranging from the world's first all-electric 360 materials handler, the Solmec 106ZE, right through to the smallest electric vehicle on display – Epower Trucks' EP electric barrow.

Epower's HD Jobmaster pedestrian tow tug with wheeled bin handling attachment will be of particular interest to local authorities and commercial waste companies, both from a practicality and a health and safety point of view. This tow tug allows safe wheeled bin collection from restricted access areas where refuse vehicles cannot. It is also suitable for hilly, steep and traffic congested areas, where transporting a heavy wheeled bin is potentially hazardous. An electromechanical parking brake and anti-roll back feature for slopes ensure that the wheeled bin stays comfortably and reliably at a standstill whenever required.

Tennant Green Machines will be unveiling for the first time at a UK event the new 500ze all-electric vacuum street sweeper. According to Tennant, the innovative sweeper, with its lithium-ion powered battery pack, heralds a significant step in the drive for reduced carbon emissions and improved air quality.

Also on display will be electric vehicles from Bradshaw including the FP3 burden carrier, Trafalgar Cleaning Equipment's Piktou electric street cleaning machine, the Groupil G3 electric utility vehicle and the STILL RX70 forklift with hybrid technology from Locators, the CAT D7E diesel-electric dozer, and the prototype Johnston VT550 narrow truck sweeper on a Mitsubishi chassis.

Futuresource (pronounced Future Resource) is a joint venture between the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) and the Environmental Services Association (ESA).
