Eunomia was contracted by the seven-council waste body to benchmark its existing kerbside-sort collection contract with May Gurney against other options to ensure that the Somerset Waste Partnership was achieving value-for-money.
However, Mr Dickson criticises one of the key Eunomia findings, as reported by the Somerset Waste Partnership, which appeared to warn against the use of commingled collections due to high prices for mixed paper being obtained from China and other Asian markets.
He states: Commingling is not more reliant on foreign markets than kerbside-sort and many of the latter methods collections mix paper and card anyway.
