Valpak’s business planning manager to join Wastepack

Kamila Horak, Valpak’s business planning manager, is making an unexpected move to join rival compliance scheme Wastepack.

Ms Horak will take up the new position in August, at the scheme’s Hertfordshire office. She will be compliance manager and report to Wastepack’s compliance director Peter Gaffney.

Paul Ashworth, Wastepack’s group chief executive, said “Kamila’s marketing, financial and administrative skills, combined with her five years’ experience in the compliance industry, ensure that she will make a valuable contribution to our development.”

Ms Horak was a key member of the Valpak marketing team during the formation of the scheme and the membership recruitment period. More recently, as business planning manager, she was involved in planning Valpak’s approach to producer responsibility.

As well as managing administration and compliance in the four schemes within the Wastepack Group, Ms Horak will form part of a team looking to expand the group in new compliance related areas.

According to Wastepack’s director of marketing and communication, Mike Beard, whom she worked with in the early days of Valpak, Ms Horak’s fluency in half a dozen languages will help Wastepack in dealing with European issues.

Wastepack is also looking to recruit a commercial director. This comes only a few months after the appointment of group chief executive Paul Ashford.

Mr Ashford said this post would “strengthen our ability to win major new contracts”.

Wastepack hit the headlines this Spring for its controversial 2001 compliance plan (see letsrecycle.com article).
