St Albans city and district council ranked at the top of the recycling table with a recycling rate of 64.2% in 2020/21, and was presented with the letsrecycle League Champion trophy on 11 March to mark the occasion (see letsrecycle.com story).
Veolia has held a contract with the local authority since 2016, and in that time the council’s recycling rate has risen from 52.2% (rank 56) in 2015/16 to top of the league in 2020/21.
Veolia’s Nikki Mills recognised the residents’ role in the achievement. She said: “Residents of St Albans, we couldn’t have done this without you. Thank you ever so much for your hard work.”
Andrew Reidy, general manager for Veolia, added: “I am proud of our team’s contribution to this landmark achievement.
“Thank you to all of the residents in St Albans for the commitment you have shown to reduce, reuse and recycle your waste, we look forward to continuing our work with you in the future.”
