Plastic Omnium takes top prize at Masters of Waste

The green jackets were the top prize in the competition

Plastic Omnium took first place at the Masters of Waste golf tournament this year taking the top spot as a team and also individually thanks to team member Richard Kidd.

With a score of 94 points, Plastic Omnium won the green jackets after beating second placed Elite Consultancy Network and third placed Powerday, who both scored 86 points.

Waste and recycling professionals from across the industry took part in the event, held on 28 April at the Belfry Hotel and Resort in Warwickshire.

The runner-up for the individual scores went to Allen Smith of CHS Environmental who came in second place with Dave Young of Powerday third.

A total of 26 teams took part in the annual competition, organised by letsrecycle.com and supported by charity Child Bereavement UK, with £1,500 raised by the event being donated to the charity. Over six years, more than £10,000 has been raised for the charity.

Activities

Alongside the main competition, participants were treated to a series of activities throughout the day and even had the chance to win a holiday to Barbados.

A particular highlight from the day was the hole challenges, including: the wheelie bin challenge, sponsored by Egbert Taylor Group; the longest drive challenge, sponsored by Ceris Burns International and the ‘nearest the pin’ challenge, sponsored by Biffa.

Comedian Adger Brown provided the after-dinner entertainment for the event which is now in its sixth year.

Rob Mowat, director at letsrecycle.com said: “We were delighted with the turnout for the event this year. The companies who participate really make it a thoroughly enjoyable day and the success it is.

“Masters of Waste remains such an important day in the waste calendar and I congratulate all of the winners on their prizes. We hope to see all of the familiar faces back again next year.”
