The event marked the incredible milestone of 40 years of LARAC, supporting and celebrating the UK’s local authority recycling and waste management community.

Hosted by Shaun Williamson, the actor and comedian best known for his role as Barry Evans in EastEnders, the evening celebrated the outstanding achievements of local authority recycling teams, individuals and partnerships driving positive environmental change across the UK.

LARAC Chair Cathy Cook opened the ceremony with a warm welcome to attendees, recognising the hard work, collaboration, and creativity that continue to push the boundaries of waste reduction and resource recovery.

This year’s awards highlighted a range of campaigns and initiatives – from innovative community projects and partnerships to new ideas delivering tangible environmental impact.

The winners were decided by six judges from across the waste and recycling sector:

  • Cathy Cook, Chair of LARAC
  • Hilary Tanner, Environment Policy Adviser at the Local Government Association
  • Tom McBeth, Policy Officer at LARAC
  • Claire Brandwood, Recycling & Collections Advisor at WRAP
  • Ruth Robinson, Experienced Resources and Waste Management professional at Derbyshire County Council, representing NAWDO
