The hospice provides palliative care and support to life-limited and life-threatened children and their families.
Morgan Sindall Construction is currently working on a new Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) and Waste Transfer Station at Middlemore Lane, Aldridge, for Walsall council.
Through the partnership with EMR, the construction company has been able to pass on the value of its surplus materials. EMR separated out the materials – the majority of which was scrap metal – and the value was donated to the hospice.
EMR said that is hopes that the collaboration will also mean that the two new recycling facilities have already contributed to the circular economy before they even open, reducing emissions related to their construction and boosting the sustainability of the projects from day one.
Ben Taylor, sector head for utilities and construction at EMR, said: “At EMR, we’re always looking for ways our business can give back to the communities where we operate. Working with Morgan Sindall Construction to deliver this donation to Acorns Children’s Hospice is an incredibly powerful example of this mission in action and we hope it can make a real difference to the lives of families in unimaginable circumstances.
“The construction industry – like every sector – is having to rethink how it does business as the UK moves closer towards its 2050 net-zero target. Recycling offers a great way to cut carbon, build in greater efficiencies and gain value from material that would otherwise end up in landfill. The Middlemore Lane projects highlight how wide the benefits of this sustainable transition can reach.”
EMR currently donates to a range of other charities and primary school projects. EMR USA supports the Ronald McDonald House, where young people and their families can find accommodation and support during hospital visits and treatment.
