A subsidiary of Renewable Energy Association (REA), incorporated in 2002, REAL carries out a range of certification and consumer protection activities, most of which promote sustainable energy.
The Biofertiliser Certification Scheme (BCS) aims to maintain confidence in the quality of digestate that is produced by anaerobic digestion, by ensuring the certification process is robust.
In the United Kingdom, PAS 110 sets the minimum quality criteria for digestate – REAL has worked with WRAP to develop this.
With growth in the scheme since 2014, REAL has opened up new positions to those companies that wish to provide certification services.
Contracts
The work requires a number of certifying bodies to run REAL’s BCS on its behalf. The contracts run for a fixed period of three years for the successful contractors.
REAL aims to provide the industry’s independent digestate certification scheme, ensuring it is robust, efficient and effective and meets the internationally recognized quality standard. This is in order to provide reassurance that certified digestate is safe for end users and the environment.
The deadline for tender submissions is 5 December 2016 and the successful candidates should be notified by 20 January 2017.
