Toyota GB and Suzuki GB have now joined manufacturers including Vauxhall, Saab and DaimlerChrysler in working with Autogreen to provide last owners of their branded vehicles with somewhere to dispose of their vehicles.

Under the ELV Directive, motor manufacturers must provide an “adequate” network of sites around the UK to which last owners can take their end-of-life vehicles free of charge.
The requirement comes into effect in 2007, although the network of sites must be established by January 2006 – with each vehicle recycling responsible for reaching European recycling targets for vehicles taken in.
Autogreen has signed a 10-year agreement with Suzuki GB, with a network initially including 150 approved treatment sites, which is to be expanded during the remainder of this year to ensure nationwide service for Suzuki owners.

The agreement with Toyota GB will mean owners of Toyota and Lexus vehicles will be assured free take-back services from January 2007. Customers will be able to access a free-phone customer support number for information on the take-back service.
Tom Denton, Toyota GB environmental and social affairs manager, said: “In choosing a business partner for ELV recovery and recycling, it was essential that the highest standards were demonstrated, ensuring Toyota and Lexus owners are given a responsible, reliable and efficient service for the final disposal of their vehicles.

“The Autogreen network is fully equipped to meet the demands of both the ELV legislation and Toyota's own environmental requirements,” Mr Denton added.
Autogreen was set up by vehicle dismantlers to help motor manufacturers secure networks of recycling sites to comply with the ELV Directive. The organisation opened its new headquarters at the dismantling site run by Intapart, near Daventry, earlier this year (see letsrecycle.com story).
