Two board additions at Grundon
Grundon Waste Management has made two new additions to its board of directors.
Simon Arnold has been appointed finance director, whilst Jonathan Harris takes over as technical director, a role previously held by Stephen Roscoe, who has moved to the newly-created position of compliance director.
This will see Mr Roscoe maintain responsibility for Grundon’s health, safety and environmental compliance, alongside his commitments as technical director of Grundon subsidiary O.C.O Technology.
The appointments bring Grundon’s total number of directors to eight.
Grundon’s managing director, Clayton Sullivan-Webb, said: “We are delighted to welcome Simon and Jonathan to the Grundon board.

In his new role as technical director, Mr Harris, who joined Grundon in 1991, will take on responsibility for the company’s resource and recovery operations, including its materials recovery facilities and landfill operations. He will also continue to oversee his existing portfolio, which includes Grundon’s hazardous and clinical waste operations.
Simon Arnold, who joined the business in 2013 as financial controller, became Grundon’s company secretary in 2017. A fully qualified chartered management accountant and chartered global management accountant, he has a degree in human resources management.
Reuse Network appoints Stephen Cawley as chair
Stephen Cawley, who stepped down as head of sustainability at John Lewis & Partners has been appointed as the new chair of the board of the Reuse Network.
Mr Cawley has been a member of Reuse’s board of trustees since January 2020. He succeeds Silv Ingram of Castle Enterprise Scotland Ltd, who remains as vice-chair after serving many years as chair. The Reuse Network is a membership body of hundreds of furniture reuse charities in the UK.
After taking up the chair role at the end of January, Mr Cawley said: “I feel very privileged to take on this role at such an exciting time for the sector — the needs of Reuse members and those they support are changing rapidly. Reuse is facing into these changes in thoughtful and innovative ways which will benefit all Reuse members for years to come”.

The new board constituted at the January 27 AGM consists of Stephen Cawley (Chair), Graham Harrison, Silv Ingram (Vice-Chair), Julian Price, Mike Wheatley (Treasurer), Michael Bertram, Peter Everett, Michael Jeal, Martin MacLeod, Richard Northall, Nicci Peck, Ali Ward, and Bob Whitehead.
Maisie Colins is first entrant for Powerday graduate scheme
Independent recycling and waste management company, Powerday has launched a graduate training scheme, as part of the company’s commitment to improving the lives of young Londoners through employment and opportunity.
Powerday’s first recruit to the scheme, Maisie Collins, started a role as environmental, sustainability, and wellness driver in August last year. A graduate in geography from Loughborough University, Maisie who completed her university thesis on ‘Sustainability around Heathrow Airport’, has this year begun a 24-month training and development programme which will see her work towards the IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management whilst delivering Powerday’s newly developed Sustainability and Wellness Manifesto.
Ms Colins said: “I started my career with Powerday in customer services, but I had a clear path I wanted to follow, which was sustainability and the senior management team have supported me every step of the way. I love my new role driving sustainability and wellness initiatives through every area of our operations and ensuring that the business is a force for good. I am hugely grateful to Powerday for investing in me and giving me access to the necessary professional development and training expertise and skills to kick start my career in Sustainability and Wellness”
Duo promoted to director posts at Averda
Averda, a waste management, treatment and recycling company business in emerging markets, has appointed Mariam Ansari as director of plastics recycling and and Brindha Roberts as group director of sustainability.
These global appointments, said the company, reflect Averda’s strategic focus on “fostering the circular economy in the emerging world as well as its commitment to staff diversity at a senior level”.
A Durban native holding a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, and a graduate of University of Stellenbosch Business School, Brindha Roberts’ career has seen her hone her skills at Mondi Packaging, Sappi and Kimberly-Clark before bringing her expertise to Averda. Brindha has been Averda’s Head of Sustainability in South Africa since 2017.
Mariam Ansari will lead Averda’s expansion in the plastics recycling sector, working with the solutions & innovation team, business development executives and external partners to identify and develop opportunities to grow the company’s plastics recycling portfolio. Mariam holds a Master’s degree from Warwick Business School, UK. She joined the Averda Academy Programme in 2010.
