In this Podcast, Jochen Behr, head of DS Smith Recycling, talks to Steve Eminton of letsrecycle.com about how the recycling side of DS Smith is operating in light of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
Mr Behr explains how the business is making sure employees are safe, following guidelines and using PPE.
DS Smith operates the UK’s largest cardboard paper mill at Kemsley in Kent as well as operating depots. The recycling division is linked to the UK mill and the company’s overseas mills in Europe and the US.
Different countries are tackling the virus with local differences and varying timescales, says Mr Behr and he cites as examples transport issues in south east Europe, currency changes in Croatia and some disruptions in France on sorting.
And, Mr Behr also references local authority collections in the UK and how the closure of household waste recycling services might impact on the business.
