A South Lanarkshire council worker has been killed following a collision with a waste collection vehicle in East Kilbride on Thursday (17 January) morning.
Police Scotland has confirmed that officers attended the scene alongside paramedics after an emergency call at 10.15. A man was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation into the incident is now taking place.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “At around 10:15 on Thursday 17th January, Police were called to reports of a man struck by a lorry on Mount Cameron Drive in East Kilbride.
“Police and ambulance crews attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The police added that the Health and Safety Executive has been informed and officers are carrying out enquiries into this incident, as well as appealing for information from any potential witnesses.
Commenting on the incident, South Lanarkshire council’s executive director of community and enterprise resources, Michael McGlynn, said: “We are deeply saddened at the death of our colleague and our sympathies go out to his family, friends and workmates.
“We are providing support to those affected by this tragic incident, and the council will of course assist the police with their enquiries.”
