We are looking for a Waste Manager (Technical) to join our Waste Services Team. Are you passionate about delivering high quality waste services that help the council and its residents protect the environment and divert as much waste from landfill as possible?

About the role
Wiltshire Council has entered into a number of significant waste and recycling contracts for the collection and management of waste and recycling from 220,000 households, covering household waste, mixed dry recycles, and green waste, as well as the operation of waste facilities such as waste transfer stations, a new materials recycling facility and a network of household recycling centres.
The Waste and Recycling Manager (Technical) will be the primary lead on day to day senior management of the material, composting and residual waste management contracts and empowered to take appropriate actions to ensure that the contracted services perform satisfactorily and are maintained and formally updated to account for all necessary contract changes and variations as required..
You will lead on the development of performance reports and action plans for the Household Waste strategy with Wiltshire Council.
You will report directly to the Head of Waste Management, and provide essential senior and professional “technical specialist” capacity to the Heads of Service and Senior Management Team in closely managing the service delivery contracts in place and ensuring these keep pace with required improvements in order to allow the council to continue to meet its statutory obligations and its strategic and local objectives.
With a degree level qualification or relevant experience, you will have extensive knowledge and relatable experience of working in a professional role within a waste management services environment.
The successful candidate must be a ‘service expert’ in respect of all current and emerging legislation, guidance and industry best practice that impacts on or influences the broad range of waste services delivered (collection, treatment, disposal, strategy).
We are looking for a great communicator, with a track record of building successful working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and ability to motivate others. A proven ability to prioritise and problem-solve in a fast-paced work environment will be key.
