Cory Riverside Energy are recruiting for the position of Recycling Manager at the Smugglers Way Transfer Station.

Using waste that would otherwise have gone to landfill as fuel to generate electricity the company generates c.525,000MWh of electricity each year from processing c.750,000 Tonnes of waste. The company uses the River Thames as a green highway to move waste from London on tugs and barges, effectively removing 100,000 truck movements a year off roads. By generating electricity from residual waste, the plant is improving resource efficiency, avoiding landfill use and achieving greater sustainability as part of London’s circular economy.

The holder of this role will provide an important function that directly contributes to the daily working and smooth running of CRE through various operation duties and responsibilities.

The Role

  • To successfully negotiate contracts to secure markets for recyclable materials that maximise revenue for Cory but to also be part of the Business Services team managing the financial aspects of the business in relation to waste and recyclables.
  • To market and develop relationships with customers, in order to achieve the full potential from the services available to Cory at the London Transfer Stations and Material Recycling Facility (MRF).
  • To work in partnership with the MRF and CA Site staff to ensure that all end products meet market quality standards and Duty of Care requirements.
  • To maintain a sound understanding of all waste legislation and disseminate as appropriate, all relevant legislation and wider industry-based information, trends and developments to the wider team.
  • To manage the overall business’ compliance of the Transfer Stations, Recycling Centres in accordance with permits and licences as well as the MRF Regulations, including but not limited to overseeing the sampling process and data production.
  • To maximise revenue by successfully negotiating both short- and long-term contracts with re-processors to secure fully auditable markets for recyclable materials generated from the MRF and CA Site.
  • To work in partnership with the MRF and CA Site staff to ensure that all end products meet market quality standards and Duty of Care requirements.
  • To assist on contractual arrangements current and future for the services provided by Cory at the London Transfer Stations and MRF.
  • To produce commercial data relating to inputs from the Transfer Stations to RRRL, the MRF and other facilities and to be responsible for the weekly and monthly reporting of data for clients as well as within the company.
  • To actively assist with all month end and price change activities.
  • To oversee all aspects of the sampling process and data production to ensure compliance with the MRF Regulations.
  • To actively participate in tender processes relevant to the business.
  • To attend and fully participate in industry working groups and forums as and when required

The Person

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Educated up to a Degree level or equivalent
  • Able to work quickly and accurately under pressure
  • Flexible approach to work with a willingness to learn new skills
  • Able to work well and accurately
  • Organised and able to multi-task
  • Good communication both verbally and written with colleagues, customers and members of the public
  • The jobholder may be required to travel to other locations on behalf of the business therefore a full driving licence may be required
