Cornwall Council has an exciting and challenging senior management role to oversee the Waste Management Services and Infrastructure across the whole of Cornwall. As a Unitary Council, the statutory Waste Collection and Disposal Authority functions fall within this remit.
Cornwall Council is extremely ambitious and has set out its aspirations within a recently adopted strategy “It’s In Our Hands”, this includes a Materials Charter for Cornwall which sets out key principals for all organisations and businesses to adopt towards more effective resources and waste management.
In addition the waste infrastructure is continuing to improve with the recent opening of the CERC (efw) and new MWRC’s in the pipeline to compliment those already open across Cornwall.
Cornwall Council is currently tendering its waste collection services and this will determine our approach to waste reduction, improving recycling rates and contributing more to our Environmental Growth Strategy too.
As you would expect Cornwall’s face is its fortune and we continually improve the cleanliness and quality of our open spaces, beaches, streets and trails for residents and visitors alike.
There are also exciting challenges ahead for a proven waste manager and industry expert – we are keen to continue to positively raise the profile of the services provided and achieve exemplar status and the national recognition.
As the councils lead service expert, you will report to the Service Director for the Environment, the role oversees include:
- Strategy, Policy development
- Commissioning and Contract Management
- Waste collection and disposal functions including for example; managing the council office waste requirements and closed landfill sites
- Education and awareness
- Customer relations
- Environment cleansing
The post holder must have a proven track record in managing a diverse range of relevant services, a sound understanding of strategy development, policy implementation, and translating this into effective service delivery through efficient commissioning and contract management of service providers. You should be an experienced senior manager and be able to demonstrate the required skills associated with the services described, and understanding the statutory and legislative requirements that apply.
