A Bit About Us
AO Recycling is part of the online electrical retailer AO.COM PLC group. We’re a rapidly growing business that specialises in the recycling of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
Based in Telford, we are a very exciting and enthusiastic company that like to think big. With this we drive high expectations and targets to ensure lasting happiness for our customers. The successful candidate will be joining a growing business with influential support from companies within the Group to ensure we are exceptional in the moments that matter.
More About the Role
We are looking for a Head of Engineering for AO Recycling.
This is a multi-site role, with existing sites located in Telford. You will oversee, develop and manage teams of mechanical and electrical engineers over initially two UK sites: a state of the art fridge and WEEE recycling plant and plastic recycling and polymer sorting plant.
Over the last 3 years £15M has been invested in these facilities and a further £10M is forecasted to be invested over the next 2 years at a new facility and the current sites. You will be joining a business that has experienced year on year growth of in excess of 50%. We expect our turnover to triple in the next 3 years.
You will be heavily involved in machinery and plant selection and design, which may include some limited travel abroad to view and assess similar plants and facilities.
We want someone who is not afraid to admit they don’t know some things, but who has incredible appetite to learn and absorb information. This may be a very steep learning curve, so we need someone who is prepared to live and breath this role.
If you are not already, we need you to become an expert.
Here’s What You Can Expect to be Doing
People and culture are vital to us, and you have to be someone who closely aligns with our values.
You will be expected to find ways to improve plant uptime, enhance services delivered to the business and find better ways to manage and implement engineering projects.
We want a thinker, who will define a clear strategy for the engineering department and deliver this strategy.
We also want someone who will happily get their hands dirty to understand and solve problems.
You will develop and deliver a structured engineering plan, whilst working with the engineering managers who will report directly to you.
We are a very fast paced business, we approach problems using our agility to adapt and solve problems or realise opportunities quickly. We need someone who has the same attitude.
You will be required at times to work with external contractors and suppliers to help meet the expected service levels.
You will also manage and lead the installation of a £8M investment in a new recycling facility in the southeast. This will have the latest state of the art fridge and waste electrical recycling plant and equipment.
A Few Things About You
Excellent and proven project management experience ideally with qualifications. You will need to demonstrate this in the interview.
We want an overachiever, who is absolutely relentless and never gives up. If it was easy, we probably wouldn’t be doing it!
We need someone who fits into our senior team: having a sense of humour is vital, we have to have fun and enjoy what we do.
We want someone who is level headed, who does not crack under pressure. Even at the most difficult moments you need to treat your team fairly and with respect. You will be expected to ensure we recruit based on the right culture and our values.
It is essential you have a strong mechanical and engineering background with a minimum degree or equivalent in mechanical or chemical engineering.
Please include with your CV details of any systems, plant or machinery that you have worked on or with.
Please also provide any experience you have and the level of knowledge of any material separation systems e.g. magnets, eddy current separation, screening, optical sorting, conveyor systems, granulation and shredding, cryogenic filtration, condensation separation, dust suppression, electrostatic separation, hydraulic systems, dry and wet density separation etc.
