Commercial Business Development Manager, Trade Waste

Are you an experienced business manager, with proven entrepreneurial flair, gained from operating a commercial service in either the public or private sector?

Kirklees Council has exciting and ambitious plans to modernise and transform our Trade Waste Service, by developing and introducing a new business and charging model, which delivers value for both our internal and external commercial customers, and benchmarks us against our competitors.  The successful candidate will oversee the development of this programme, and lead and manage its implementation through the service.

We are interested to hear from candidates who can demonstrate their experience of managing operational services; and while Waste Management operational experience is desirable, it is not essential.  More important to us, are your business analytical skills, commercial approach, and a track record of developing and implementing financially successful operations.

The postholder will be experienced in using data, financial and customer profiling information to identify our optimum operating position, using this to develop the policy and procedural changes required to implement a revised commercial business model for the service.

You will be a part of the Service’s Senior Management Team, and will work collaboratively with your operational colleagues to embed and promote a commercial culture within the service, and lead the changes you recommend.

You will apply effective programme and project management methodologies to deliver initiatives, develop new commercial business opportunities and ensure your programme successfully integrates with the overall strategic framework for the service, and the wider corporate strategy of the Council.  You will establish, build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders to ensure commercial opportunities are maximised.

You will have excellent written and verbal communication and influencing skills, financial acumen, and the ability to understand and motivate staff, to work with senior managers and Elected Members.
