Recycling and Collections Advisor

Employer WRAP

Do you have hands on experience of making recycling and waste services more effective? Have you implemented improvements? Would you like to help councils across Wales improve their services and help Wales achieve its ambition to be the best recycling nation in the world?

WRAP Cymru is an expert in sustainability including waste management and recycling. We are looking for a Recycling & Collections Advisor – Operations to join WRAP Cymru’s Collaborative Change Programme and be part of a team of experts supporting councils to meet their recycling targets.

You will work alongside councils helping them design and implement improvements to their recycling services, whether that is a county-wide service change or understanding how to improve their recycling centres. We are looking for someone who has worked strategically with senior officers, supervisors and frontline crews, and has the ability to get them on board with proposed changes. This role provides specialist advice and support in the implementation of new services and changes to existing local authority services. You will assume responsibility for delivering improvements to waste and recycling operational services up to and including supporting the mobilisation of significant service changes. The role will involve working with Local Authorities throughout Wales and will require spending significant periods of time away from home.

We are looking for candidates who have significant operational management experience in the planning and delivery of waste collection and recycling services. You’ll need experience of implementing significant service changes and be able to influence and facilitate change. The ability to communicate with staff at all levels is also a key requirement.
You’ll be sharing your knowledge of the range of collection, recycling and sorting systems being used and so an understanding of the Welsh policy and legislative context for delivering recycling and waste services is important. This is a unique opportunity to use your knowledge to really make a difference.

When applying for the role, you’ll be asked to describe how you meet the following job essentials:

  • Evidence of significant operational experience in delivering waste collection and recycling services, depot management and HWRC provision, planning and implementing significant service changes and good understanding of health and safety in the delivery of waste and recycling services.
  • Good knowledge of the range of collection, recycling and sorting systems in operation and the relevant policy and legislative context
  • Strong analytical skills; methodical and logical approach to decision making and problem solving
  • Evidence of good influencing and negotiating skills and managing expectations when delivering changes

Interviews for this role will take place 23rd & 24th August 2022.
You might be pleased to know that we’ve moved to hybrid working here at WRAP. Although this role is contractually based at our Cardiff office, in reality you will be able to work from home, with the caveat of coming into the office to collaborate with your teams as and when you need to. You, your manager, and your teams will have the freedom to decide when this will need to happen, but when it is agreed it will be important that you do attend the office. If you are invited for an interview, this can be discussed in more detail.
